George Stanko For Mayor

What do you want changed in
Sarnia?
Hi, I'm George Stanko.
Are you better off now then you were 4 years ago?
Sarnia has been my home for over 50 years, and it is your home too. As a father and a grandfather, my roots run deep in this community. I built my life and raised my family here, and I care deeply about the legacy we are leaving for the next generation, as well as the family we have now.
In the 40+ years since Sarnia amalgamated with the town of Clearwater, the population of our city is virtually unchanged. During that same period the Industrial tax base has declined. The city does not have a business-friendly reputation. Our city has stagnated.
Sarnia needs new strong leadership with a bold vision to grow the city and create the environment that will attract new business, create jobs and improve the future for everyone.
We must treat everyone equally with dignity and respect.
As mayor I will bring Accountability, transparency, growth and common sense to City Hall. I have a detailed plan to make that happen.
Campaign priorities
Our campaign is grounded in practical leadership and positive action. Here are the core pillars focused on moving Sarnia forward together.
Affordable, Accountable City
Residents deserve value for every tax dollar and clear evidence that City Hall is improving. A modern Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) should be permanent, practical and public.
Jobs, Investment and Housing
Economic growth is the strongest long-term answer to tax pressure. The City should lead as convener, regulator, infrastructure partner and champion, while using the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP) and other specialized organizations rather than duplicating their work. Create the position of Growth manager within the city organization to be the focal point to drive growth.
Opportunity for the Youth
Young people stay when they can see a future. The City should connect education, work, recreation, culture, housing and civic leadership into one youth-retention agenda.
A City Where Seniors Can Thrive
An age-friendly Sarnia benefits everyone. The focus should be independence, mobility, social connection, housing choice, safety and easy access to information.
